Pucking Around - Emily Rath - DNF

DISCLAIMER: This review is written without judgement for the lifestyles people choose to live. This is my personal opinion.

Where do I even begin with this book. I didn’t read any reviews before I started reading and based my decision to read it on a spicy excerpt I saw on Instagram. I may have gone too far this time! Listen, I can get down with an MMF threesome story when the MMs are focusing on the F and not each other. I actually prefer that to MFF, but MMMF turns out to be a bit much for me. So let’s get into what I liked and what I didn’t like.

What I like:

  • We love a consent king and there is nothing that happened to Rachel that wasn’t with her explicit verbal consent.

  • I really love all of the individual relationships (Jake and Rachel, Caleb and Rachel, Mars and Rachel)

  • The possessive hockey player element is obviously very hot

  • To me this read as a deeper story of sexual exploration and I really appreciated that. No party in the foursome ever thought they would be in this situation, but they all learned how to embrace it in their own way and in their own time. Open communication was highly encouraged and respected and I really loved that.

What I didn’t like:

  • For me, most of what I didn’t like can be summed up by most of the content warnings in the beginning of the book. I went in with an open mind, but I can confirm I am not into spit play, descriptive MM sexual scenes, bondage, “daddy,” etc. Those things really did, I don’t want to say ruin because that seems harsh, but it took me out of what is otherwise a really well-written story and character development.

This is my first “why choose” and while I am not writing off the category entirely, because as I said before I do like MMF situations, I’m not sure I would go this far again.
